February brings new articles on art and archaeology in:
Smithsonian, Feb 2008 on "The Parthenon: Secrets of the ancient temple" and "Portraits of Resistance" which is about a show at the National Museum of African American History and Culture and focus on people that fought injustice.
Archaeology, March/April 2008 has articles on Nefertiti, Peru's Fire Temple, rebuilding 15th century Chinese ships, and the Greco-Roman city of Assos.
Culture + Travel, Jan/Feb 2008 has an interesting article on art in Trinidad and Swedish photographer Lars Tunbjork.

Metropolitan Museum of Art gets African sculpture
The Met has finally purchased its first major piece of contemporary African art. The sculpture is called "Between Earth and Heaven" and was created by Ghanaian artist El Anatsui in 2006. The Met declined to say how much they paid for it.

Vatican finds lost Michelangelo drawing

"The Vatican said on Thursday it had discovered a lost drawing by Renaissance master Michelangelo of a design for the dome of St. Peter's Basilica.
The Vatican newspaper l'Osservatore Romano said the small drawing, done in the spring of 1563 when Michelangelo was 88, was believed to be his last known sketch before he died the next year..."

"Israeli archaeologists uncovered a 2,000-year-old mansion believed to have been home to ueen Helene of Adiabene, whose clan ruled a region now in Iraq.
The remains of the building were unearthed just outside the walls of Jerusalem's Old City, underneath layers of a more recent settlement that was hidden until recently under the asphalt of a small parking lot in east Jerusalem..."
